Private Island Audio is an audio post house and recording studio with a cheerful and smart staff who are delighted to serve your needs in music, film, and television. Uniquely housed in a 104 year old mansion, the atmosphere is one of relaxed luxury, including tons of Italian marble, granite, crystal chandeliers, and a massive fireplace in the main control room. Outdoor decks looking onto tropical landscaping provide a special ambiance. Situated in a historic enclave populated by show-business neighbors, there is lots of private parking in a safe and inspiring environment.
In business for over 25 years, Private Island's reputation was created by powerhouse mixer and chief engineer Michael McDonald. The Dolby corporation chose Mr. McDonald to create music mixes for their demo reel when they first premiered 5.1 surround sound.
Three studios provide every service needed for music (tracking, overdubbing, editing, mixing, and mastering). Dozens of gold and platinum albums across every genre of music are featured. Studio A, with four separate isolation areas, is capable of recording up to 12 players at a time. Scorekeeper, a remix and remastering service for the scores of films from the 1940s forward, has the world record for rereleasing classic film music - 275 total.
Every film and TV service from foley (P.I.A.'s artists created the foley for "The Hurt Locker") to SFX design (5 million SFX available), background ambiance, ADR, to accurate and spectacular mixing on Stage A, are rendered by audio engineers trained by the company. Private Island has achieved 273 films, 55 TV shows, hundreds of music albums, and advertising, video game sound, commentaries, and voice overs since 1984.
Robyn Whitney, owner of Private Island, has used her long history as an actress to form a walla/loop service. Actors of every age and ethnicity are available at discount prices for enhancing TV shows, films, and video games. Super-creative actors in this organization, called The Loopy People, also travel to other studios.
