Listed in MovieMaker Magazine’s top twenty “coolest” film festivals in the world, deadCenter Film Festival is Oklahoma’s largest film festival dedicated to celebrating, encouraging and promoting independent film from around the globe. The festival, set in the “dead center” of the United States, presents films at universities, art museums and other cultural institutions throughout the year in addition to its June event.

Presented by Film Independent, the LA Film Festival is much more than a fine movie going experience at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. It’s an offering of master classes, panel discussions, the “Filmmaker Retreat”, music in film nights, and social events. This year the festival will launch a special section called LA Muse, designed to focus on Los Angeles as a source of inspiration for filmmakers and artists worldwide. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, LA Film Fest will present nearly 200 features, shorts and music videos representing 40 countries.

NYWIFTV: Designing Women

The Designing Women event is an annual celebration that honors the brilliant costume designers, makeup artists and hairstylists who bring the characters in film and television alive. This year’s honorees include costume designer Renee Ehrlich Kallus (Annie, Chocolat, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?), makeup artist Evelyne Noraz (American Hustle, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Perks of Being a Wallflower), and hairstylist Kerrie Smith (Now You See Me, Behind the Candelabra, Rescue Me). Variety will also present the special “Variety Ensemble Award” to the costume, hair and makeup team of The Angriest Man In Brooklyn.”

In addition to four live events this month, Variety 411 is also a media sponsor of New Filmmakers LA’s On Location: The Los Angeles Video Project.
The Los Angeles Video Project is designed to provide the creative members of the Los Angeles community to serve as ambassadors of LA, highlighting and promoting life in the city while simultaneously promoting film making in Los Angeles. Presented in support with the City of Los Angeles and LA Weekly, film makers have the opportunity to present their film in the festival and compete for a $50,000 prizes.
All submissions must visually, verbally or otherwise highlight life in Los Angeles, spotlighting the communities, cultures and diverse facets to the world. Submissions are being accepted now through August 29th.
