Variety 411, EP Financial Solutions and AFCI present Sundance Webinar featuring producers behind “Hellion,” “Rudderless,” “Drunktown’s Finest” and “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter”
Variety 411, the national production resource dedicated to the film, television and commercial production community, in partnership with tax incentive leader EP Financial Solutions and the Association of Film Commissioners International, will present a webinar focused on the production of feature films competing in the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
Marking the series’ third return to Sundance, “From State to Slate: Sundance Feature Films” will pair film producers with film commissioners and tax incentive experts from the states where the films where shot. Topics to be explored in this lively presentation include: state incentives, federal initiatives, and production resources and infrastructure found in the states that aided in each films’ completion. The panel will be presented at The Hub, Utah Film Commission’s headquarters located in the heart of Sundance on Main Street. The presentation will be filmed before a live audience and will be accessible at no charge as a webcast on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 11:00am PST / 2:00pm EST.
Producers on the panel include Jonathan Duffy and Kelly Williams (Hellion) Keith Kjarval and William H. Macy (Rudderless), Chris Ohlson (Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter) and Chad Burris (Drunktown’s Finest). Shot in Texas, Hellion stars Aaron Paul and Juliette Lewis and was directed by Kat Candler. The feature marks the second consecutive year Duffy and Williams have features in competition at Sundance, following last year’s Pit Stop. Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter features Oscar nominated Rinko Kikuchi as a woman in Minnesota who becomes convinced a treasure she saw in a film is real. Ohlson is a 2013 Sundance Creative Producing Fellow and alum of the IFP Narrative Filmmaker Labs. Rudderless marks the directorial debut of actor William H. Macy, who also wrote the screenplay. The film was produced by Kjarvel’s production company, Unified Pictures, and was shot entirely in Oklahoma. Filmed in New Mexico, Drunktown’s Finest is a coming of age story following an eclectic group on an Indian reservation. Past Sundance favorites produced by Burris include Barking Water, The Killer Inside Me and Mosquita u Mari, which earned multiple 2013 Independent Spirit Award nominations.
Joining the producers are Lindsey Ashley, Senior Production consultant for the Texas Film Commission, Andrew Peterson, Executive Director of IFP Minnesota, Jill Simpson, Director of the Oklahoma Film and Music Office, Nick Maniatis, Director of the New Mexico Film Commission and Fred Siegel, C.P.A. The hour long panel will be moderated by Joe Chianese, Executive Vice President of EP Financial Solutions.
Chianese will begin the panel with an over-view of recent global incentive structure changes. Throughout the course of the webinar, web attendees will be able to submit questions. The webinar will be archived for six months after its webcast, and may be repeatedly viewed at no charge by the public.
