From Richard Parker To Merida – VES Award Winners

It was a good night for “Life of Pi,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Brave” at the 11th Annual Visual Effects Society’s Awards held February 4th. Each entry won four awards each.

“Life of Pi” won the Outstnding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Feature Motion Picture award, the highest award presented to a nominee. Richard Parker, the Bengal tiger adrift on a lifeboat with Pi won the Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture award, and the sequence known as “Storm of God” that sets Pi adrift was the focus of the feature’s two additional awards: Outstanding FX and Simulation Animation in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture and Outstanding Compositing in a Feature Motion Picture.

The animated feature“Brave” received the following four awards: Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding FX and Simulation Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture and Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.

HBO’s television series “Game of Thrones” received the awards for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program, Outstanding Animated Character in a Commercial or Broadcast Program, Outstanding Created Environment in a Commercial or Broadcast Program, and Outstanding Compositing in a Broadcast Program.
